I have shown myself quaHfied, I trust, for a task to which I have longlooked forward, by my previous labours in similar fields, having editedin 1875 the Visitations of Yorkshire made in 1584-5 and 1612,—thelargest and most complete Visitation volume that has yet issued fromthe press (j ; and again, early in the present year, the Vi_sitation_ ofMiddlesex began in 1663 ; the only volume of printed Visitations whichcan claim to be taken from the original records in the archives of theCollege of Arms (D. 17).
