Ripen in the house, placing the fruit in a dark room until fully matured. "Winter Pears should hang on the trees until there is danger of frost—say from first to tenth of October. Put in tight boxes or barrels, and keep them in some barn or out-building as long as possible without freezing, and then place them in a dry, cool cellar until nearly ma- tured, then bring into a warm room for a few days to ripen. Many Pears do not succeed on the Quince ; such as are particularly adapted to cultivation as Dwarfs, we have marked with a DWARF PEAR TREE. SELECT LIST. The varieties which are here given embrace the most popular, and such as are worthy of general cultivation. 2.
