The Forceps.—So far back as the time of Hippocrates it was recom-mended in certain difficult cases of labor to seize the childs head with thehands and pull it down. This procedure was practically impossible until the Fig. uterine dilator in situ : thebag is round in shape, but is compressed by theintra-uterine tension.
