Training in the workshop of Jacop van Ruisdael, Hobbema’s landscape show his distinctive use of colour and expansive view of Joseph Vernet, (Avignon 1714-1789) Clair du Lune, estimated at £100,000-150,000. This atmospheric seascape highlights Vernet as the leading marine and landscape painter of his time. Sebastiano Ricci (Belluno 1659-1734 Venice) Sofonisba Accepting the Poison, estimated at £60,000-80,000 is a story taken from the late manuscripts of Livy that shows Sofonisba – a Carthaginian princess – accepting her fate of a poisoned chalice before the wrath of the Romans.©Keith Larby/Alamy Live News
