Dinslaken, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany - Emscher estuary into the Rhine. The Emscher's outlet into the Rhine will be relocated from Dinslaken almost 500 metres to the north to Voerde. Fish will then be able to swim barrier-free up the new Emscher from the Rhine through a newly created floodplain. Following the construction of a parallel sewer, the Emscher will be completely free of sewage from January 2022. The river was previously an open, above-ground combined sewer with rainwater and wastewater.
