Bracken leaves. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the leaves of a bracken plant (Pteridium aquilinum). The undersides of the leaves are covered in spore-containing sacs known as sporangia (brown). The spores are released when the wall of a sporangium dries and splits to throw the spores away from the plant.
