The Snowmobile, Mount Cranmore ski area, North Conway, New Hampshire, USA, 1945. The ski lift was a trestle construction with metal cars each carrying one passenger pulled by a cable below the wooden tracks in a continuous loop up and down the mountain. It was invented by local engineer George Morten and opened in 1939. It was a successful attraction all year round but its limited capacity meant it was replaced eventually by a conventional lift and was dismantled in 1989 - a vintage nineteen forties photograph.
