I attended school until I was fifteen years of age, when Icame to the city of Rochaster, New York State, and on August 5, 1862, enlisted in Company D, lUMhRegiment, Now York Slate Volunteers (Captain J. Geo. Cramer); left with the regiment August , and was with the regiment in all its engagements till Lees surrender, and came home witli tlniu-July 3, 1863, was promoted to corporal. I received my discharge May 28, 18G5, at Baileys Cru--Roads, Va. After being mustered out with the regiment, 1 returned to my home at Utiea, N. \. CAPTAIN WILLIAM H^ MERRELL,Company A, loSth N^Y.
