Steam is always escaping from theorifice and jets of water occasionally spurt above it in the intervals betweenthe eruptions. This geyser usually shoots out a column of water, fromthirty to fifty feet in height, several times each day, and throws up smallerjets every few minutes. It occasionally, however, husbands its strength fora grand effort, at which times it forces up a beautiful fountain to an altitudeof 100 feet or more, accompanied by a tremendous rush of steam. Beforeeach eruption deafening sounds are heard far down the throat of the crater,and masses of water are thrown out.
