The monastery of Virgin Mary Elonas (14th century) located on a rocky slope of Parnonas mountain in Arcadia, Peloponnese, Greece

The monastery of Virgin Mary Elonas is situated on a steep rocky slope of Parnonas since the 14th century. According to religious tradition, the icon of Panagia was found here and the first two monks were settled in to honor it. During Ottoman occupation, the area was renowned and became famous due to a belief about the icons' power that worked miracles. Thus the area was developed economically and the monastery was able to support the Greek revolution against the Ottoman empire (1821)
