He died unmarried, 9 January, 1784, andwas buried at Thornhill. A monument was erected to hismemory in York Minster by public subscription. He isdressed in a blue coat, with gold lace, and the Spurn light-houses are shewn in the background. Three-quarter lengthon canvass 50 x 40 in. Copy by Hudson, of the portrait by Wilson in the TrinityHouse at Hull, painted 1768. 7.
