Loch Insh and the Cairngorms


The River Spey rises in the Monadhliath Mountains and flows 100 miles east and north east into Moray where it joins the sea at Spey Bay. To the north east of Kingussie the River Spey flows in to Loch Insh and this and the adjacent Insh Marshes to the west are an important wildlife habitat. Loch Insh forms part of the RSPB Insh bird reserves, in winter it holds large numbers of migrant whooper swans as well as numerous other wildfowl. Wildlife Conservation Area
