(Fig. 107, page 233.) 274 BEES AND FRUIT-GROWING It is an indisputable fact that a great number of trees andshrubs will not produce fruit unless cross-pollinated by first this service was performed by our native species; butwith the planting of orchards by the square mile their numberbecame wholly inadequate to pollinate efficiently this vastexpanse of bloom.
