In 1907, Mr. Baker, in company with and Mr. Woodruff purchased the interests of Mr. Stearns, and was made president of the new company. The company is stillamong the large manufacturers in northern Wisconsin, operating largelumber plants at Odanah and Washburn, also the Ashland, Odanah &Marengo Railway Company. The company is one of the best known andmost successful in the state. In addition to his Odanah interests he is president of the Baker. HISTORY OF WISCONSIN 1035 Lumber Company at Terrell, Arkansas. He is also largely interestedin, and a director of the following companies: Scott & Howe LumberCompany of Ironwood, Michigan; the Northern National Bank of Ash-land, Wisconsin; and the McCarroll Lumber Company of Hammond,Louisiana; the Lyon Cypress Lumber Company of Gary, Louisiana; theMellen Lumber Company of Mellen, Wisconsin; The Ellisson LumberCompany of Madison, Wisconsin; the Lyon, Gary & Company of Chi-cago ; the Bagdad Land & Lumber Company of Bagdad, Florida, and theWausau Accident & Insurance Company. He was mayor of the city of Ludington, Michigan, for one term,and also president of the school board of the same city for a term ormore. His political affiliations are with the Republican party. Fra-ternally he is a Mason, having membership in the Ashland Commanderyof the Knights Templar. Mr. Baker was married June 26, 1882, to May C. Foster of Ludington,Michigan. Mrs. Bak
