SOUTHERH PACIFIC TRAIN NO. 2 1-OK TlIK START. 1 he lamp has five divisions so that fivefigures or letters may be shown at atime. The glass of each division is about6 ins. wide by about 8 ins. high. Theouter or weather side of each division ismade of plain glass; behind that thestencil of figure or letter slides in agroove and behind the stencil is opal glassso that the figures are clearly visible dayor night. The lamp has a curved backstruck from a 20 9/16 ins. radius, andthis curve<l back forms a reflector for thelamp. The flat face of the lamp is aboutJO ins long. Where an electric headlightis used the indicator lamp is fitted withan electric bulb. The faces of theselamps are set an an angle nf 45 degs. tothe line of the track so that it is pos-sible to see the figures if one was standing directly in front of the engine, or ifhe was at right angles to the smokebox.—Edit
