His father, Joel Jones, was born at Hebron, Connecticut, May JD TTCCUr T14, 1792, and after marrying Maria Dart, theJones J daughter of Joseph Dart, of Middle Haddam, Con- necticut, removed with his young family to Conneaut, Ohio, in Jones, the father, was the sixth son of Captain Samuel Jones,of Hebron, who served with credit as a commissioned officer duringthe French and Indian War. That the latter was a man of considera-tion is shown by the fact that he held two commissions under KingGeorge the Second. One of these, now in possession of his descend-ant, is dated March 27, 1758.
