The mandible is articulated with the maxillae through a ven- trally articulated tooth of the genal plate (Fig. 41, Imx) and directly with the mandibular articular process situated on the posterior mar- gin (Fig. 38, lap) outside the rostriform process. It is formed by the joining of the dorsal and ventral surfaces and restricts the tube lead- ing to the maxillary cavity. Another articular process in the form of a lobe on the dorsal wall joins the maxilla with the articular maxil-.
