Chief Warrant Officer 4 William K. Wilkins was an ordnance sergeant when he helped to lower a flag atop the Pentagon following the Sept. 11, 2001 attack. He was among the first wave of responders to the incident. The flag, which hung adjacent to the crash site of a terrorist commandeered Boeing 757, has become an iconic symbol of resilience and resolve. Additionally, its rooftop unfurling has become a staple at Pentagon 9/11 remembrance events. Wilkins is currently assigned to the Logistics and Material Readiness Directorate, Army Combined Arms Support Command T. Anthony Bell).
