Sections of the Cathedral Complex date to 1635 with major reconstructions in 1679 82 by architect Osip Startsev who covered a connecting section with 11 small domes on exquisite drums and placed them so that they formed three five domed compositions The complex is the architectural symbol of the 17th century s Kremlin Additional restorations were done in the 1920s 40s and 60s Today the palace churches are the residence of the President of the Russian Federation
