Deviated (crooked) nasal septum of a 35 year old female patient. The septum is the piece of bone and cartilage that separates the nostrils. Deviation is most often caused by an impact trauma to the face. It can also be congenital (present from birth). This case resulted from surgery to correct a hare lip in childhood. It can cause recurrent sinus infections, snoring and difficulty breathing. Treatment is with surgery to remove the excess tissue to open up the nostrils.
