Muriel Edwin, 62, with her cow collection in Hulland Ward, Derbyshire. Holy Cow – how one woman’s collection has become an obsession that has filled her home with cows. Muriel Edwin, 62, has amassed so many cow related objects that every room in her flat above the pub she runs is stuffed full of the black and white bovines. From the obvious ornaments and cuddly toys her collection also includes countless other pieces including, a kettle, loo seat, bed spreads, mop, clothing, mugs, clocks, paintings and kitchen equipment. Looking like a shrine to dairy herds, her office walls are even painted with a black and white cow design. Many of the cows are still packed in their original boxes, while others are piled high in every room, cupboard and work-surface above her pub in Derbyshire. She believes she has many more than the current Guinness World record holder’ in America who has 2,270. “I’ve got too many to count – I’d need help counting them all. I’ve definitely got many more than two thousand. They’re in boxes, under beds and everywhere” she said. One room alone has ten cow clocks hanging on the wall. “It’s become an obsession. I buy them and people but them for me, although Ebay has a lot to answer for” she added. “My maiden name was Brown. At school I was nicknamed Moo Brown – as in ‘how now brown cow’. It all started there really. “I don’t have any particular favourites although my late husband bought me the life-size ones in the pub garden and these are closest to my heart,” said Muriel. You’d be forgiven for thinking that the pub in Derbyshire, might be called the ‘spotted cow’ but it’s actually a giant black stallion that’s on the pub sign of The Black Horse in Hulland Ward.
