guitarist playing semi-acoustic Gibson ES 295 guitar
The Gibson ES 295 (Electro Spanish) belongs to a group of cello-bodied, semi-acoustic, jazz guitars that helped in building Gibson’s reputation in the world of guitar manufacturers. Their origin goes back to the first Gibson F-hole jazz guitar - the L5 acoustic - designed by Lloyd Loar in 1924. The original ES 295 was in production from 1952 until 1958. From the very beginning, since Scotty Moore (guitarist in Elvis Presley's band) played the ES-295 , it has been described as the ultimate rockabilly guitar From 1990 to 1993, Gibson introduced a reissue with a gold finish and two p90 pickups. It was followed by a more prestigious version with an antique gold finish and two p90s pick-ups, the ES-295 '52 Historic Collection, which was available until 2000.
