The Mandar people are from the island of Sulawesi (Celebes). Also present is the Kaiser's first wife Augusta Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein (1858-1921) and four of his seven children. Ehlers published a book in 1894 about his travels. He died the following year in Kaiser-Wilhelmsland, part of German New Guinea. This wood engraving dates from circa 1888.
