Buffalo chasing the lion away AFRICA THRILLING images capture the moment a buffalo herd dramatically turned the tables on a pride of lions The pride known as ?The Hollywoods? was seen stealthily walking in formation across the plain towards the herd in Zambia?s South Luangwa National Park. Sensing the oncoming danger, the large herd started running, but the dominant male lion caught up to one buffalo and attacked. Teeth bared, the male lion jumped on his back. Happily for the buffalo, the six lionesses couldn?t join the male before the rest of the buffalo herd charged the lions and drove them away from their prey. These spine-chilling images were captured by a British wildlife photographer, Nathalie Mountain (53), using a Nikon D850 Camera and Nikon AF-S 180-400mm lens from a distance of about 50 feet. ?For over an hour and a half, we witnessed the lions and buffalo taunt and chas each other - a true battle with two of nature?s heavyweights,? she said. ?A couple of times, the lions managed to jump onto or grab a buffalo, but then the rest of the buffalo herd would come charging back, and the pride would retreat. ?Both species displayed incredible courage, strength and ingenuity, but eventually, the lions realised this was not going to be their day and headed off to rest in the shade whilst the buffalo crossed back over a small watery lagoon and disappeared off back over the plains. ?It was an incredible battle of brute strength and coordination from both the lions and buffalo, and it was fascinating to see their behaviour - I felt like I was watching a David Attenborough ENDS
