Arthroscopy: close-up of an orthopaedic surgeon's face as she looks into the eyepiece of an arthroscope, an instrument used for mimimally-invasive surgery of joints such as the knee. An arthroscope is a type of rigid endoscope, a steel tube containing optical fibres, a lens and light source in addition to some type of surgical instrument. The tube is inserted through a small incision in the skin, the joint capsule penetrated & any damaged cartilage removed or reshaped by remote manipulation. The field of view may also be displayed by means of video for teaching purposes.
