The Chineseapply the name Chinling strictly speaking only to the passesin the Yangtzu Yellow River watershed range. The mass ofmountains which fill up the whole of Southern Shensi fromsouth of the Wei River to the Szechuan border, and throughwhich the Han flows in a deep and narrow trough, are uni-versally known locally as the Nan Shan.
