Nurseries (Horticulture) Pennsylvania Philadelphia Catalogs; Vegetables Seeds Catalogs; Plants, Ornamental Catalogs; Flowers Seeds Catalogs. Of the many New Vegetables first introduced into cultivation by us as enumerated on page 36 of Farm Annual, seldom has any variety awakened such an extraordinary demand so quickly. Although first introduced in 1890, BURPEE'S SADDLE=BACK seems already to have become recog- nized everywhere as the best Wax Bean in cultivation to=day. While productive and profitable to grow for market, the SADDLE=BACK, unlike many recent " novelties," is of the most superb quality, surpassing all other Wax Beans in the rich flavor of its stringless, saddle-back pods. It originated in Genesee County, N. Y., with Messrs. N. B. Keeney & Son, who are the largest growers of Beans in the world. Among the scores of new cross-bred Beans which we have carefully examined on their farms, we singled out this distinct variety as the most valuable of all Wax Beans. It is a cross between the Yosemite Mammoth or Monster Wax and the Black-Eyed Wax, and inherits quality from both parents. Again this year we contracted for the originators' entire crops, and consequently the genuine headquarters seed can only be had from us. Messrs. Keeney & Son have never sold a pint of these beans to any other seedsmen. BURPEE'S SADDLE-BACK WAX, exclusively owned and controlled by us, marks the greatest improvement yet obtained in Wax Beans. In combining handsome appearance for market and rare quality for table use it is unapproached by any other variety in cultivation. Descriptive of the Saddle-Back we can hardly do better than quote the following from a letter written by the originators :— "The pod is large, long, straight, round, very full of meat, and is absolutely stringless. The growth of the bush is vigorous, the foliage being sufficient
