He was also a veryclever actor, and played Danny Mann in TheColleen Bawn at the Adelphi. Like JuhnBrougham, he was also a poet, and produced twovolumes of poetry. To complete the parallel, hewas also a native of Dublin, like Brougham. Thelatter, however, was a better poet, bettordramatist, and better actor than of his plays will doubtless stand the test 1U Ireland in DION BOUCICA0LT. -of time for many years, while some of his poemsare of a very high order of merit. As an Irishcharacter-actor, he also takes high rank. Most ofhis latter years were spent in America, where hefound few rivals. Joseph Stirling Coyne also wrotelargely for the stage, many of his plays being suc-cessful at the Adelphi Theatre. He was a native ofKings County, and gained a good position amongLondon journalists, joining the staffs of several ofthe most important papers of the metropolis. Foremost among the dramatists of the day, ifpopularity is any guide, is Dion Boucicault, whowas born in Dublin in1822. He has been amost prolific writer,and a mere list of hisproductions wouldtake a good deal ofspace. Some of thesepieces are trivial andunworthy of him, buthis best pieces are un-rivalled in their first piece, Lon-don Assurance, wasbrought out at CoventGarden, March 4th, 1841, and is an excellentcomedy, and likely to be his most lasting dat
