Report of the Commissioner of Fisheries to the Secretary of Commerce and Labor for the fiscal year ended .. . alth but the oystermen themselves should see that notMng is doneto jeopardize public health. Aside from the moral aspect of thematter the future of the oyster industry depends largely on a main-tenance of the reputation of its product for cleanlmess and whole-Bomeness. 9. One of the most valuable and certamly the most enduringlyvaluable results of the survey is the establishment of permanentlymarked and accurately determined triangulation points by theUnited States Coast and Geodetic Survey, supplemented by a fewestabhshed by the Bureau of Fisheries. In all future surveys ofleased bottoms, these should be utilized and the corners of the lease-holds determmed by reference to them. A strict and consistentcompliance with this recommendation will prevent disputes andlitigation should oyster planting become as important as it has inother places and it will msure accuracy in the surveys, guaranteeingan honest return to the State from the rental of its barren bottoms.
