Our sketch must be concluded, but not finished, by ashort biography of the men. Foremost of whom is theElectrician and quondam president. SIDNEY II. SHORT. Mr. Short was born October 8, 1858, at Columbus,Ohio, and was educated at the German Univeisity ofthat city. At the opening of the Ohio State Universityhe was chosen to head the department of physics in thelaboratory. His success here led to a similar position inthe Denver University, whither he went in 1880 and re-mained until 86, when he took up practical transmissionof power and came East to organize a company at Col-umbus, Ohio, under the name of S. H. Short & contracting for a number of roads the companyjoined the Brush Company, and under the name of theShort Electric Railway Company took up its headquar-ters in Cleveland.
