Trails of leaf miners (family Agromyzidae) in leaves of wild columbine (Aquilegia canadensis). Tiny flies of the family Agromyzidae lay eggs inside the leaves of plants, and the larvae that hatch devour the inner layer of the leaves, leaving serpentine trails as seen in this photo. The dark-colored larvae can be seen here at the ends of some of the trails.
