Pour le Mérite - a cross of the order from World War I Embossed neck cross made of gilt silver by Johann Wagner & Sons in Berlin, blue enamelled, on the long, original ribbon customised for wear. The solidly worked decoration from the second half of World War I shows a flaw in the eagle's wing at 4 o'clock that is characteristic of the manufacturers Friedländer and Wagner, and bears the standard punch marks "W" and "938" in the lower cross arm.
