The Wesleyans were the first to start missions in Fiji, andthey took them up so thoroughly, and spread their stationsso widely over tlie whole group of islands, that there was littleroom for other Protestant societies, who therefore gave theirenergies to other places, and left the work here entirely tothis body; so that, except where the Roman Catholics camein, soon after the Wesleyans, there was no controversy ofdoctrine to disturb the infant religion of Fi
