Espigo del Gas and Somorrostro beach and Barceloneta Beach aerial view Barcelona Catalonia Spain Espigó del gas (Espigó de Ginebra) The Breakwater of Gas serves as a border between Somorrostro Beach in the north; and La Barceloneta Beach , to the south. Residual waters of the municipality of Barcelona are connected to the Besòs system, consisting of a biological treatment plant (WWTP) and a main emitter (P) where the effluent is placed, inland. This emissary is located on the beach of the North East Park of Sant Adrià, opposite the port of Sant Adrià de Besòs. The system also has an emergency emitter (E) parallel to the main emitter and located 200 meters to the south, which can be put into operation in cases of torrential rain. For these cases of torrential rain, the system also has four outlets located in the different springs (from Gas, Bogatell, Bac de Roda and Prim) where rainwater is drained together with a fraction of wastewater (what is known by unitary system downloads or DSU).
