Latimer, the subject of thissketch, and now a prosperous merchant inCreemore, Simcoe County, Ontario. Willie, for that is how his friendsfamiliarly address him, got his initiatorybusiness lessons in Draperstown, CountyDerry, Ireland. This was in 1877, whenhe was nearly 14 years of age, and he wasapprenticed for 5 years to Henry Leacock,a general merchant of that town. Afterspending nearly 6 years in Mr. Leacocksemploy, he resolved to see Canada, arrivingin this country in the fall of 1883. His first employer in Canada wasW. L. Coulter, Avening, now of Cree-more, with whom he remained abouteighteen months. Then he secured asituation with John Sharp, of Can-nington, one of the shrewdest andoldest business men in Onario.
