A patient's eyes are examined in the examination rooms by a cataract surgeon at the Nekemte Eye Clinic. Nekemte Eye Clinic in western Ethiopia was built in 2007 and was initiated by Exeter Ethiopia Link, a charity based in Devon. With a major grant of £150,000 over 3 years from the Four Acre Trust, together with a minimum commitment from the Link of £18,000, a clinic was developed to treat an estimated 40,000 people in it’s first year and now carries out about 100 cataract repair operations a month. December 31st 2009 marked the end of EEL’s commitment to the Nekemte Eye Clinic, although the new management team have secured funding from other European partners
