Stiftskirche Collegiate Church and Fruchtkasten, historic reconstructed buildings in Schiller Square, Stuttgart, Germany

Schillerplatz is a square south west of Stuttgart's main square, Schlossplatz. It is named after the German poet, philosopher, and dramatist, Friedrich Schiller. Schillerplatz is surrounded by historic buildings, the Stiftskirche (Collegiate Church), the Fruchtkasten building, the Prinzenbau (this houses the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Justice), the Alte Kanzlei (Old Chancellery) and Altes Schloss (the Old Castle). A memorial statue of Schiller by sculptor, Bertel Thorvaldsen stands in the centre of the square. The buildings were burnt down during WW2 and the present buildings are reconstructions.
