The BBC moved many of its departments from London to Manchester in 2011. Around 2,700 staff work at the corporation's northern base at MediaCityUK producing thousands of hours of television and radio, as well as content for the web. BBC Breakfast, BBC Sport and the BBC Philharmonic are all based there, along with Radio Five live and children's TV.
