Members of the Illinois National Guard working at the COVID-19 Mass Vaccination Site at South Suburban College in South Holland, Illinois, are thanked for their work during a “clap-out” hosted by the Cook County Department of Public Health. After administering approximately 71,000 vaccinations, the site closed May 27. Maj. Gen. Rich Neely, the Adjutant General of Illinois and Commander of the Illinois National Guard and Command Sgt. Maj. Dena Ballowe, of Litchfield, Illinois, Senior Enlisted Leader, Illinois National Guard, visited the South Holland site to thank the members of the Illinois National Guard and civilian contractors during the ceremony. The Soldiers working the site will be moved to other vaccine sites in the Chicagoland area. While at the site, Neely and Ballowe offered their thanks to members working the sites and presented challenge coins recognizing ILNG members for their efforts. Neely told the troops the ILNG couldn’t work the COVID-19 mission without them, while Ballowe called the Soldiers the real heroes in the fight against COVID-19. Since the first mass vaccination site opened Jan. 26, the sites where ILNG members assisted the local health departments have provided million vaccinations to residents.
