Thus the head of the jack bears against the truckframe so that the entire car can be lifted and swerved overin the direction intended. This hook attachment was devisedby an electric railway shopman who has found it very service-able in handling cars. ■ SEMI-STEEL PAY-AS-YOU-ENTER ROLLING STOCK FORMILWAUKEE The St. Louis Car Company has shipped 50 cars recently tothe Milwaukee Electric Railway & Light Company and therest of the order for 100 is being rapidly completed. As shownin one of the accompanying views, these cars are of the doubleend and pay-as-you-enter type, they are handsome in appear-ance and embrace some very practical features. The main dimensions are 35 ft. over the corner posts, 49 ft. 6 in. over thevestibules, 50 ft. over the buffers, 8 ft. 7 in. over the widestpart, 8 ft. 6^4 in. over the belt rail. The construction is of the semi-steel type, as the side of thecar below the window sill forms a girder in connection withthe
