External ventricular drain. Frontal X-ray of the head of a 72-year-old man who has undergone neurosurgery (an operation on the brain). The X-ray shows the positioning of an external ventricular drain (arrowed) on the right side of his head, draining excess fluid from around his brain following the operation.
