Carrara marble columns, mosaics on walls & chandeliers inside the Church of Nativity rebuilt by Byzantine Emperor Justinian 1st in the 6th century


Interior of the basilca of the Church of the Nativity with it's Carrara marble columns, this central part of the church belongs to the Greek Orthodox Church, the basilca stands here since the 6th century when it was built by Byzantine Emperor Justinian the 1st on the ruins of the first church built in year 336 by Emperor Constantine the Great and his mother Queen Helena. See the reflection on the marble tiles of the original floor, the corinthian capitals on the columns all from Byzantine era, the icons painted on the marble columns and the mosaics on the walls above them were added by the Crusaders time in the 12th century.
