This Elamitic civilization, perhaps engendered as early as , centered in the city of Susa, but this was not necessarily itsfirst abode, and it was widely extended over Asiatic soil, so thatpottery of this general character and probably in some way con-nected with it has been found in Afghanistan, in Eastern Mongolia,and as far west as the Nile. In every case, however, saving the ex-tensions of the Iranian plateau and its cultural relations into theupper Mesopotamian valley, the quality, the variety, and the artis-tic and technical competence of this type of pottery rapidly
