In the Netherlands, 'Diana resting with her nymphs' has been a particularly popular theme since the 17th century, which was frequently depicted not only in paintings but also on fan blades (cf. C. Kammerl, Der Fächer .., Munich 1989, cat. No. 53, p. 139). This is not surprising, since Artemis symbolized the chastity of women and is linked to marital love as such on this fan. The medallions on either side are dominated by (pastoral) love, with a shepherd's staff on the left, a basket of flowers, pigeons, a flat hat and lute representing the (marriage) faithful dog, and on the right an altar with a woman's portrait above which two turtle-doves, a nest filled with eggs with two birds, a shepherd's staff and a hat. The leaf is painted on the back with a medallion filled with two lovebirds, which hangs on a garland. We also find love symbolism in the frame. At the center of the handpiece is a pair that offers a floral wreath to Eros. A braided love wreath or bridal crown hangs above them. On both sides of this performance, columns with entangled monograms (?) Above which are a flower basket, flanked by seated women. The outer legs are decorated from top to bottom with a flower basket, shepherdess (?) With garland in hand, trophy with books (?)
