Misty Dimitsana village in Arcadia, Peloponnese, Greece
Dimitsana is located near Vitina and has been characterized a traditional settlement under preservation. The village played a crucial role on the outcome of the Hellenic revolution as the six powder-mills of the village were the sole providers of the revolutionary forces with bullets and gun-powder. The mills are located only a small distance from the village. Dimitsana was also a major cultural and spiritual center of Hellas during the Turkish occupation and the years that followed independence. The traveler may visit the Municipal Library of the village and admire the fine collections of manuscripts and historic documents. Nearby locations of interest are the monastery of Panagias Ton Aimyalon and the archaeological site of the ancient city of Gortyna, one of the most significant cities of Arkadia during the classic historic period. The nearby traditional villages of Stemnitsa, Karytaina, Lagadia and Libovisi are other idyllic locations of the surrounding area. The visitor will definitely enjoy the all-green mountainous landscape.
