After graduation he was engagedfirst as Instructor during the Supplemen-tary Term and then as Instructor inMathematics. In December, 1902, hewas given the title of Assistant Professorof Mathematics. The following year hewas transferred to the Department ofMechanical Drawing with the same title. His work at the Institute recjuiredonly part of his time at first, and he tookup the study of patent work in the officeof J. M. Hicks, a patent expert in NewYork.
