Vogiie, who confessesvery rightly that he had not found anything similar amongother ruins dating from the third to the sixth centuries, finds in 90 it a style which, though it evinces manypoints of contact with old Byzantine art,possesses a new principle that Asiatic influence. Well, thosesculptures, those friezes, those circles en-closing animals in slight relief, thosecrosses, those roses, those heads, thosecomplicated and ingenious knot-works, areso like what we shall soon see in Italy, asto make it impossible to doubt their com-mon parentage of style.
