Adult Wood Stork preens its tail feathers while hanging around the nest at the rookery.

A Wood Stork, Mycteria americana, preens its tail feathers at the nesting colony. The white bird stands out against the bright green leaves of the nesting island and a darkening sky. The face profile shows the details of its strike-a-match-on-it flinty neck which earns this bird its nickname of Old Flinthead!! The bill has a nice warm woody color to it which is seen more at nesting season. The image is a late afternoon shot.
