Billblack, not very large, and bent at the end ; the gape extending s20<z/idecLs C/oa/o//t/< /■;■ L/0< GOATSUCKER. 343 beneath the eyes, as in many of the Genus; irides yellow; at thebase of the bill a few trifling bristles; the head is full of feathers,of a dirty flesh-colour, the rest of the neck and under parts of thebody much the same, with a tinge of ferruginous; under the eye,on the sides of the neck, and beneath the wings, crossed withnumerous broken lines and markings; the crown of the head andnape are black, curving forwards on each side over the eye; acrossthe back part of the neck a broad band of black, coming forwardson each side, about the middle, where it divides into two parts ; theback and wings are dusky blue, powdered with black ; quills dusky,edged and spotted with dusky rust-colour ; tail a trifle forked, dusky,marked with dull, pale, ferruginous spots on both webs of thefeathers, and crossed with ten or eleven obsolete bars of a darker ordusky colour; legs reddish flesh-colour.
