Taramakau River
The Taramakau River originates in the Southern Alps near Hokitika, and heads westward before emptying into the Tasman Sea south of Greymouth. Through its course of 75 km (47 miles) a number of tributaries flow into the river including the Otira River. The Tranzalpine train runs daily from Christchurch to Greymouth. It follows the Taramakau River on the western side of the Southern Alps.
